dBA Course

The Otago diploma in Business Administration (dBA) is a part-time programme for experienced managers, professionals and administrators.  The dBA is an excellent course for busy professionals who want to learn and improve their business knowledge and skills in a dynamic, relevant and challenging environment, yet without the major commitment required of the MBA.

By undertaking the diploma in Business Administration you will add value to your career or business by:

  • Developing your critical thinking and awareness
  • Updating your existing skills and knowledge
  • Exposing yourself to new business applications and processes
  • Simulating business case studies
  • Enhancing your team building skills
  • Developing your professional presentation and reporting skills and your knowledge and use of technology

As a dBA student you will study eight papers taken from the suite of papers offered on the Otago MBA programme (generally 1 per module over a two year period.).

At the completion of your eight papers you will be required to complete a practical consulting project which is usually carried out within the student's own organisation.

In addition to formal class contact hours, which may be between three and six hours per week, students will typically work another five to ten hours per week for each paper in their own time.

Programme Fees (tuition, texts, course materials & resources) for the course commencing January 2010 have not yet been set. The fees from 2009 have been provided as a guide only.

Fees for 2010: NZ$1,888.70 (incl. GST) per paper

The normal minimum requirements for eligibility to be considered for entry to the Otago dBA are:

  • Leadership qualities
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to the course
